How it all started…

In the spring of 2021, a group of women got together as a small group from their church. They didn’t know each other well, but they met for a common purpose. Summer came, and they agreed to keep meeting, studying different materials, and adding more women to the group. This group was diverse! Single, married, divorced and remarried women, young and older women all at different stages and seasons of life. The relationship didn't exactly make sense and that’s how “The Misfits” were born.

Jen Stanley was leading the group, and she got a hankering to go to the beach. She thought taking a group of grown women to the beach would be more fun than going with her own daughters who get tired of being sandy and want to go inside after an hour by the water. She found out a group member was turning 50 and had never seen the beach! What a great excuse to plan a trip!

Fast forward to September 2022, and those twelve women made a trek to Ocean City, Maryland. Nine ladies were already regular members of the group and three were special guests of the birthday girl. They rented a condo, planned their meals, bought matching shirts for the trip, decided they needed muumuus and spent as much time on the beach as possible. And they talked. A LOT. About everything. The TV never came on. They ate all the cookies. They had a dance party in those muumuus. They simply spent quality time together. And those three new gals? They kept talking about how different this experience was. They felt comfortable. No cattiness. No bickering. No judgment. Just sharing, growing, encouraging and seeing each other where they were in their life.

Jill Super knew they had to help others find this same kind of friendship. She talked about how they had to share this with others. That there was a need to teach people how to have these kind of healthy friendships. She knew it wasn’t something they could keep to themselves. When Jen and Jill talked about where they should start, they kept coming back to an analogy Jen uses in her counseling practice. She told people who were guarded and closed off that they needed to bust their biscuits.

And with that, Busted Biscuits was born.
